I've recently had several couples attend my 'Hoop with Cori' fitness classes.
I have truly enjoyed watching these hooping couples grow in both hula hooping and in their relationship. I always say it's impossible not to smile while hula hooping, what's a better date night than burning 600-800 calories together while having fun! As the old song goes 'A circle is round it has no ends, that's how long you're going to be my friend!' I learned this rhyme as a child and just now learning just how true it is.
When I first attended the FXP Hoop Fitness Instructor Certification class,
I met Nancy who was auditing the class. She was already a hoop fitness instructor and helped me gain the confidence to start my own hoop fitness class and that's how I started 'Hoop With Cori' and the rest is hoop history!
The past 2 years, I have become very close with the amazing hoopers who take my class every week. It has truly become a supportive social experience where we help one another reach our fitness potential.
We're not afraid to be goofy in front of one another and support each other in every endeavor possible from fundraisers to birthday parties to parenthood. This plastic circle that we call a hula hoop has brought the most incredible people into my life. Not bad for what most people think of as merely a children's toy!

When I was just 12 years old, I announced that I would be hula hooping as my pageant talent in the Miss Connecticut Teen pageant. (See photo) People laughed. I overheard the comment "what a joke, hula hooping isn't a talent!" No one was expecting me to be crowned 'Miss Connecticut Teen' that day, but I was! (See photo) Fast forward 20 years when I discovered the FXP Hoop Fitness Certification program, which is certified by the American Exercise Council. People laughed. They said "No way is hula hooping fitness. No one is going to come do that, why don't you try a real fitness program!?" Slowly, but surely, my FXP Hoop Fitness class has gained popularity and currently has a following of about 10 dedicated women each week.
When I applied to be America's Fit Mrs., people laughed. I was told "don't bother, they only crown real athletes, not joke ones like you." I have a feeling they stopped laughing when I was crowned America's Fit Mrs. 2016 (See photo) and went on to win America's Fit Queen 2017.
Two weeks from now, I'll be making the drive back up to Boston to attend an FXP Hoop Fitness Certification class as a refresher course. Once again, I hear the jokes "you're really going to travel 2 hours to take a hula hoop class?!" Yes, and I'm going to be a better instructor because of it!
There are so many benefits to exercising your abs using a hula
hoop! First of all, it's fun! Cori Magnotta always say "It's impossible to not smile
which hula hooping!" (Go ahead and try it, I'll wait) Now compare hula
hooping to boring sit-ups. There is no comparison! Hula hooping is actually a
more effective way to work your abs than doing sit-ups. Hooping for 10 minutes
is the equivalent of running a 10 minute mile! Even with a standard toy hula
hoop, you'll burn 7 calories per minute. Use a fitness hoop, such as the FXP
Hula Hoop and that number skyrockets to a possible 800 calories per hour! These
are not made up claims, they are verified by the American Exercise Council. In
addition to working your abs, hula hooping is great for those with leg injuries
who are unable to walk or run, but still want a full body cardio workout. Cori Magnotta have also been told by a chiropractor that hooping can be very therapeutic to
those with certain back injuries. The hoop provides a massage like rhythm on
the back with can be healing in some cases.
