My name
is Cori Magnotta, I am a mom, self-described pageant girl and hula hooping
fitness extraordinaire! Just how does a person become a hula hooping
extraordinaire you may ask; the answer may surprise you! I began modeling at
the age of 13 years old, which led to me competing in pageants. I needed a
talent to compete, but had two left feet and my singing was flat. I picked up a
hula hoop, something I was always very good at, taught myself some hooping
tricks and the rest is history!
With hula hooping as my very unconventional talent, I won the
title of Miss Connecticut Teen and Mrs. Connecticut 10 years later. When I
became a mom, I put away the crowns, heels and hoops thinking that part of my life was over, I am
so glad it wasn’t! After giving birth to my son, I knew I wanted to lose the 85
pounds I had gained during pregnancy, but I hated exercise! I found a fitness
program that incorporated using a weighted hula hoop and I was instantly
hooked! Not long after that, I became a Certified FXP Hoop Fitness Instructor
and ‘Hoop with Cori’ was born! I started teaching hoop fitness at my local
karate studio, coincidentally named ‘Inner Circle’ and quickly discovered that
I was inspiring my local community to find fun with fitness.
Not long after I started my exercise regimen, I noticed I was
becoming very tired. At first, my doctor dismissed it as the stress of being a
new mom, but eventually agreed to run some tests. The results came back that I
had hypothyroidism, a condition that slows the metabolism and depletes the body
of energy. This made me more determined than ever to inspire others to have a
no excuses approach to fitness! I worked with my doctor to find the right dose
of medication, while committing myself to a healthy lifestyle. A long-time
pageant friend of mine owned a pageant system for like-minded women who enjoyed
a healthy, fit life-style and wanted to encourage others to do the same. I was
thrilled to be named Connecticut’s Fit Mrs. 2015 and advance to the national
pageant. I was ecstatic to have won America’s Fit Mrs. 2016 and to my surprise
also named the inaugural America’s Fit Queen 2017! I have used these titles to
spread the message that fitness doesn’t have to be going to the gym every day.
Fitness can be any activity that gets you moving and that you enjoy! I also
love challenging others to try something that they don’t think they can do. At
least once a week, I hear “I can’t hoop!” Within my 1-hour class, I have them
hula-hooping like pros! We have a saying it class “When in doubt, hoop it out!”
I have found that there are very few problems that can’t be solved by hula
hooping because it’s impossible to not smile while doing it. Go ahead, pick up
a hula hoop and give it a whirl!
Please do not hesitate to let me know what else I can do! I'm
expecting another check this week and will continue to pay you as much as
possible and as quickly as possible!
